Tiverton

Tiverton is in Newport County that was transferred to Rhode Island in 1747 from Massachusetts. In the early days, the town was a farming community with fishing and boat construction. Today, Tiverton is known for its historic buildings in the town's Four Corners and its fine arts, shops, and antiques.

The town has over 7,500 residents, but brings in visitors because of its rich history and many attractions. Tiverton Four Corners is a historic district in the center of town. The area not only includes many 18th and 19th century homes, but more modern attractions as well. The Four Corners is full of many small shops and restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, and beautiful scenery.

Many of Tiverton's attractions allow visitors and residents alike to enjoy the scenery and wildlife the town has to offer. The town is home to the Butterfly Zoo which is open during the summer with its 30­-by­-60-foot, screened greenhouse that holds hundreds of living butterflies.

Town wildlife preserves such as Weetamoo Woods & Pardon Gray Preserve and Emilie Ruecker Wildlife Refuge allow visitors to explore marked trails, learn about the wildlife, and appreciate the beautiful scenery.

As a coastal community, Tiverton has many homes for sale that offer waterfront views. Some houses are in proximity to Fogland Beach or Grinnell's Beach allowing easy access to fishing, swimming, windsurfing, hiking, and nature and wildlife observation.
