Glocester is a rural community dotted throughout by lakes and ponds, and a good part of the northern portion of the town is set aside as state-owned parks and forests. The town of Glocester was immortalized by the author H.P. Lovecraft who was entranced by the town and expressed its picturesque essence in verse.
Impressions/Character
Think of Glocester and think of flowering plants, fresh fish and water fowl wetlands, forest, open fields, streams and agricultural activity. Tourists find treasures in the many antiques and collectible shops throughout Chepachet and Harmony, and dine companionably with the locals at any of a number of fine restaurants in the area. Numerous historic houses and churches sit atop the town's countryside. In addition there are eight sites within the Town of Glocester that have been preserved as open space to be administered by the Glocester Land Trust, in cooperation with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).

Glocester is made up of the villages of Bowdish, Chepachet, Clarkville, Durfee Hill, Harmony, Spring Grove, and West Glocester.
