Swansea is a suburban/rural community with a colorful history going back to Colonial times. It is located in southeastern Massachusetts, bordered by Barrington and Warren, Rhode Island, on the west and southwest; the mouth of the Taunton River on the south; Somerset on the east; and Dighton, Rehoboth, and Seekonk on the north. Swansea is about 4 miles west of Fall River and about 12 miles southeast of Providence, Rhode Island and also has a number of major shopping areas.
Impressions/Character
While much of its agricultural land is still open, Swansea also retains significant examples of intact Colonial houses. The historical character of the town blends into its abundant suburban neighborhoods ideal for country life with attractions close at hand. The Swansea Mall is a great shopping area for those who enjoy a less crowded and frenetic shopping experience. A bounty of shopping locations and a thriving restaurant scene provides plenty of close-by entertainment, but, once again, at a more relaxed pace than in larger cities.
Villages/Neighborhoods
The town is comprised of the lovely areas of Barneyville, North Swansea, Birch Swamp Corner, Hortonville, Luther Corner, South Swansea, Touissett (also in Warren), Ocean Grove, and Smokerise.
