Although popular as a beach retreat, Block Island has a rich history which can be seen through its homes and architecture. Farmhouses, lighthouses and hotels are preserved and can be viewed by residents and visitors. Most historical homes that remain are traditional "sparse but durable" built to withstand island weather. However, architectural styles such as Gothic, Medieval and Shingle can also be seen around the island.

The Nature Conservancy has named Block Island "One of the 12 Last Great Places in the Western Hemisphere" making the island not only a desirable location to live, but also to rent or own vacation property. Peaceful and remote Block Island offers a variety of real estate to accommodate any need, family size and budget. Homes for sale on the island come in many different architectural styles from seaside cottages and bungalows to Gambrel and Victorian style.
