Dartmouth is noted for its open spaces, seaside character, and beautiful parks. The campus of UMass Dartmouth lends an omnipresence of activity and energy to the entire area. The town is accessible by I-195 and U.S. Route 6, which both run parallel through the town.
Impressions/Character
Dartmouth has a sensual and visual appeal established by its pristine meadows, numerous marinas, quintessential New England beaches, and unique hillside homes. An abundance of business and retail opportunities are found toward the Faunce Corners area, home to the Dartmouth Mall. Families enjoy a strong community devoted to growing and improving the town's access to resources for adult recreation, youth athletics, and children's education. The Dartmouth Cultural Council oversees a variety of initiatives to help bring the arts and humanities to all of greater Dartmouth. In recent years, the town has become highly supportive of solar and wind power as a means of creating the greatest, most efficient, and sustainable energy output for the town. Rivers such as the Copicut and Shingle Island run along its picturesque surroundings.
Villages/Neighborhoods
Dartmouth is made up of the villages of Hixville, Bliss Corner, Padanaram, Smith Mills and Russells Mills. The town is sometimes separated into North and South Dartmouth.
